| | an early gift. thanks to Andy Blue Eyes, i'll be taking a weekend trip to seattle. best birthday gift ever! after having wrapped up an arduous 10-month long application process for grad school, i can happily say that i'm looking forward to living life again. the burden has been lifted and i can't wait for my love affair with seattle to begin. i have been waiting to visit the great northwest for quite awhile now and anticipate the chillier climate, quality coffee, and engaging with a community outside of los angeles. hurrah. it's unfortunate i don't have time to visit some friends in portland, but there is always another opportunity awaiting me...hopefully. the unlikely psalmist himself. he wrote this in response to the oxymoronic theology of prosperity-advocating churches: Psalm 23: A Prosperity Gospel Translation. 1 The LORD is my financial advisor, I shall not want. 2 He bids me lie down among hedged blue chips, he leads me beside quiet real estate deals with the Mayor, 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteous tax avoidance (but not evasion!) for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of recession, I will fear no economic forecast, for you are with me; my put options and my currency swaps, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a portfolio for me in the presence of my enemies at the IRS. You anoint my Roth IRA with oil futures; my 401(k) runneth over. 6 Surely late model import sedan leases will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the social register forever. |
